The John J. Bach Branch of the Albany Public Library opened at 455 New Scotland Avenue in 2010. It’s named for John J. Bach, a longtime library trustee and Albany educator who lived in the neighborhood. The New York firm Hom & Goldman designed it around a rotunda with floor-to-ceiling windows. It also has geothermal heating and cooling and a story garden out back under old black walnut trees. It replaced a small one-room branch in the former Public School 19 down the street.
